Anna Wilkowska (31) is a lawyer specializing in women’s human rights. She graduated from Gdańsk University and she did her MA in international human rights law. In 2000 she was awarded a women’s human rights fellowship (Legal Fellowship Programme) organised by the Network of East-West Women (NEWW), which she completed with the Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights. In 2002, as a legal researcher, she developed a project Gender and Economic Justice in EU Accession and Integration. This project was aimed at improving an economic position of women in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and raising their awareness about gender equality standards. In 2003 she was in London working with Interights’ CEE Programme and Equality Programme. The work included the legal analysis of cases to be lodged to the European Court of Human Rights and preparation of the Article 14 of ECHR guidelines, as well as research on non-discrimination and minority rights.
She participated in many seminars and conferences related to human rights (i.e. Advanced Course on International Human Rights Protection at Abo University in Turku, Finland) or more specifically concerning the issues of discrimination (Fight against Discrimination in the Daily Practice, organized by the European Academy of Law (ERA), Trier, Germany; Practical Training in International Human Rights Litigation with an emphasis on the European Convention for Human Rights organized by Interights and Netherlands Helsinki Committee).
She is an author of several publications and reports. In 2002 she wrote a book entitled, Women at Work: Equality or Discrimination? Protection of women from discrimination and sexual harassment in the workplace, focusing on international instruments, as well as European Union regulations and Polish legislation in the area of labour standards, with special emphasis on employment discrimination.
She also holds MA degree in Journalism from a Faculty of Journalism and Political Sciences at Warsaw University.
Currently Ms Wilkowska works as a consultant and/or legal researcher for various human rights organizations (i.e. Interights, Redress, Verite).
