Last month the Government of Malta brought into force the new legislation for the promotion of equality between men and women.
This development was followed by the appointment of the National Commission for the Promotion of Equality between Men and Women and the appointment of an Executive Director who is responsible for the administrative aspect of the Commission. Apart from being assigned new responsibilities, the
Commission has effectively taken over those of the former Department for
Women in Society.
Mrs. Dr Janet Mifsud has been appointed Commissioner.
