Statement of Sophia Spiliotopoulos, Vice- president of EWLA francais english

    "Dear Friends,
On 17 June 2002, I participated on behalf of EWLA and AFEM in the meeting of the Convention`s contact group on Human Rights chaired by Commissioner Vitorino. It was decided that three of the participants would represent the group at the hearing that took place during the Convention plenary session of 25 June 2002. The time of speech for each one was 8 minutes. I had the honour to be one of those three. Both the contact group meeting and the hearing were very interesting and it was a very good occasion for EWLA to be visible.

I must say that it was not easy at all to present the positions of all these NGOs, plus our own, the more so as the speaking time was limited.

I tried to do my best and to be as concrete and clear as possible. Here is the statement I presented, in francais and english.

    With best regards,
    Sophia"
