On 8 December a Seminar on Gender Pension Gap took place at the premises of the European Parliament. The event was jointly organized by Member of the European Parliament Dr. Agnieszka Kozlowska-Rajewicz and European Women Lawyers Association. The seminar allowed for an exchange of views between experts and policy makers.
Dr. Chlon-Dominczak presented the expert's perspective at gender pension gap. She gave an overview of the situation in the member States and pointed to different features of the pension systems that remedy or aggravate the gender pension gap. In general Member States in the Eastern and Central Europe (except Slovenia) face a larger problem in that respect than the member States in the Western Europe.
Ms. Constance Le Grip provided insights of the work conducted by the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality. She presented a draft report that is being prepared by that Committee on the need for an EU Strategy to end and prevent the gender pension gap.
All participants continued informal discussions over lunch.
