Renate Jaeger is Judge of the European Court of Human Rights since 2004. She is born on 30th December 1940 in Darmstadt and studied law at the Universities of Cologne, Munich and Lausanne from 1959 till 1964. She took her first and second State examiniations in law in 1964 and 1968. She was judge of the Social Court in Düsseldorf from 1968 till 1974; Judge of the Social Court of Appeal, North Rhine-Westphalia, 1974-87; Judge at the Federal Social Court, 1987-94
Judge of the Constitutional Court, North Rhine-Westphalia, 1988-94;Judge of the Federal Constitutional Court, 1994-2004
Judge of the European Court of Human Rights since 1 November 2004.
She has been a member of the European Women Lawyers Assocations since its beginning and says: "Europe has become an integral part of our lives as women and lawyers. This is why I am a member of EWLA."
