The Association of Women within the Media In Iceland adopted a resolution on 3 February condemning the recent dismissals of experienced women reporters and journalists in light of the slight share of women within the media and further emphasizing that there are no women holding top positions within the media in Iceland. In the category of mid-level managers only one third are women. The Association of Women within the Media also points out that in the newsrooms of every single newspaper, radio station and TV stations (apart from one TV station) including the State Broadcasting TV the situation is that women are in a minority. The Association of Women within the Media urged authorities and those in charge of the media to correct this situation. The Association has furthermore emphasized the need to revise the age distribution within the media where women are not “allowed” to grow older and there is serious lack of women journalists with a thorough experience.
